Buying Groceries Online - Getting The Most Out Of Online Food Shopping

Buying groceries online is becoming a increasingly widespread practice. If you're thinking of starting your on line grocery shopping experience, then here you'll find some good advice.

Grocery online shopping is something that's really starting to take off in many countries around the world. But is it all it's made out to be?

Suppose you want to shop for groceries online. You may have heard some great things about it, and likewise some horror stories.

Sure, it's really easy to shop once you've made your shopping list and some sites will save lists of everything you've bought previously, which can save you heaps of time.

I've done internet grocery shopping in both the UK and Australia, and my experiences in both countries are pretty similar. I thought I'd share them with you in this section.

When shopping online for my groceries, I've tended to do it for a while and then stop. Then I'd start again and stop again. Looking back, there's two main reasons why this happens:

  1. I'd find myself short of time (for whatever reason – work, family, other commitments) and think – "I'll do my shopping online for a little while and see how it goes."
  2. After a little while, I'd realise that (a) it costs a little more, (b) sometimes the items they substitute aren't what I would have chosen, and (c) the fresh fruit and vegetables (or meat) weren't as good as I hoped, or as good as I would have selected. Also, it can be a little difficult to get small quantities of fresh food and meat, as stores will often specify minimum amounts.

Online grocery shopping certainly does have the convenience of everything being delivered straight to your door, but if there's a problem with your order, or something's missing you have the extra hassle of sorting it out. If something is missing, you might still then have to go to the store anyway to get it!

Now, of course some people might not have the option of going to a store to do their shopping. They may be housebound for whatever reason, or they simply don't have the time.

For these people, I would suggest that buying groceries online is probably worthwhile, as long as you understand the limitations I've outlined above.

If you can live with these, then give it a try. However, in my experience, the pros of online food shopping don't outweigh the cons.
